Map data sources

Last updated October 22, 2026

The map, truck routes, places and prices in the THENEKAS website and driver apps come from the providers below. Their data stays theirs: we show it under their terms and credit them where it appears. Map data can be wrong or out of date. Road signs, restrictions and the law always come first; see Section 10.1 of our Terms of Service.

HERE Technologies

Map pictures (vector and satellite tiles), traffic, truck routes and their restrictions, toll costs, fuel prices along a route, address search, the address of a point on the map, and the truck stops, truck parking, rest areas, truck washes, truck repair shops, hotels, restaurants, stores, gyms and truck dealers marked “© HERE” in the map’s Places: © HERE. Used under the HERE Platform terms and the end-user terms in Section 10.1 of our Terms of Service. HERE data is fetched by our servers when you use the feature, kept only as long as HERE allows (at most 30 days) and never copied into other databases. HERE’s privacy policy: here.com/privacy.

OpenStreetMap

Truck stops, fuel stations, weigh stations, truck parking, rest areas, truck washes, repair and tire shops, and the other places listed in the map’s Places: © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.

  • How we make our places list from OpenStreetMap. Once a week, region by region (US states and Canadian provinces), we read OpenStreetMap through the public Overpass API and keep the places tagged as truck stops, fuel stations selling diesel, weigh stations, truck or HGV parking, rest areas, car and truck washes, vehicle repair and tire shops, Walmart stores, lodging, restaurants, fitness and convenience stores. We sort them into our categories and brands by their OpenStreetMap tags (for example brand, amenity=fuel with hgv=yes, highway=rest_area). We do not change OpenStreetMap’s facts.
  • A copy for you. The places list we build from OpenStreetMap is available to anyone under the ODbL 1.0: write to contact@thenekas.com and we will send it as a CSV file.
  • What is not OpenStreetMap. Parking status, weigh station status, diesel prices reported by drivers, ratings and reviews come from THENEKAS users. We keep them in our own, separate records linked to a place; they are not part of the OpenStreetMap data or of the copy above. To fix a place itself (name, address, location), edit it on openstreetmap.org.

State transportation departments

Road events (incidents, closures, construction) and traffic camera pictures in the driver app’s DOT 511 and Traffic Cams views also come from: Caltrans (California), OHGO (Ohio DOT), 511GA (Georgia DOT), AZ511 (Arizona DOT), UDOT Traffic (Utah DOT) and 511WI (Wisconsin DOT). Each item shows its source. Their data is provided as is and may be late or incomplete; road signs and the law come first.
